Three little yachts and a dog ...

Hi,

Here is a clutch of new paintings for your entertainment. In the studio I've been wandering from Wales to Balmain to the beach - from cold and damp and misty to hot and sandy and windy - and yes, there are three little yachts and a dog.

I visited Wales several years ago and loved following the roads around Carmarthen on foot, much of the time in and out of misty rain.

I spotted a fantastic shadow of a tree splattered on the wall of a house - then painted the tree daydreaming so its shadow isn't the same as its branches. Of course, there's a dog in the daydream ... or is this the dog's daydream about a tree ...? Or am I the daydream?

Hi,

If you are free and in Sydney on Sunday afternoon 14 April, we'd love you to come and say hello and join us for drinks, talk and tour of my exhibition City ditty at Gallery Mercure.

I'll tell stories about morphing from vet to cartoonist, illustrator, author, and painter (and 1.5 seconds as an actor in a movie with Jodie Foster) including techniques and approach to a blank canvas. We'll make a tour of City ditty and you'll be let in on why a tip, and what possessed the goldfish.

There will be prints of many of my paintings on various smaller items which will be available for sale at the Gallery only on the day.

"Balingup" hills will be auctioned at the Friday night cocktail party, proceeds going to St Judes' College in Tanzania.

It's quite a story ...

"Holy Family has proudly supported St Jude’s College in Tanzania for several years, sponsoring a teacher and two students. St Jude’s school provides a chance for the brightest and poorest children to escape the trap of inadequate education, illiteracy and poverty. Gemma Sisia, a girl from country NSW, established the school in 2002, which has grown from three students to more than 1500."

I think Gemma will be giving a talk at the show on Sunday. I'll be finding out on Friday evening what time so let me know if you'd like to know too!

Happy February 2013!

Here is some lovely news I have to share:

* Until March 10th, Andrew and Jeff at Botannix Studio Cafe, 25 Swinbourne St, Botany (Sydney) NSW Australia have 11 of my paintings hanging in their friendly and delightful setting. I'll be there for lunch on Sunday Feb 24th from 1 - 2 pm so if you are around, drop by and say hi.

* On March 15th - 17th several of my works will be at the Lindfield Art Show, 2 - 4 Highfield Rd, Lindfield NSW 2070 Australia.
I've donated one work, "Balingup hills" for auction to raise funds to support indigenous students. This painting was made one Christmas day, sitting on a hillside in Western Australia painting with one of my offspring. What a lovely continuation of its story.

* In April 2013 I will be collaborating with Art Pharmacy in setting up a pop-up gallery on Oxford St in Surry Hills (Sydney, Australia). Emilya Colliver of Art Pharmacy is working hard to exhibit Australian artists and help them connect with art lovers. She is a joy to watch in action as she sets wheels in motion. I will be on site as much as I can, so again, maybe you'll have a chance to drop by and say hi. There will be a wonderful spectrum of artists' works on hand for you to be introduced to and enjoy.
I'll send more details and an invitation to our opening presently.

* Before long you will see the painting "Kettle Island" popping up as free postcards in cafes and other spots around Australia. Avant Cards who print and distribute those familiar free-to-pick-up postcards to promote businesses and galleries and events, generously select a number of artists each year and offer to make and distribute cards of one of their images.
I was very fortunate to be selected and so will be scattered across the country within about a month.

So, besides new works evolving in the studio, that's what I'm up to in the near future.
I'm always happy to get feedback or to hear what you've been up to!

☆ Trailer out for movie "Return to Nim's Island" ☆

This sequel to "Nim's Island", a feature film based on the book of the same name by Wendy Orr which I illustrated under my nom de plume, "Kerry Millard", will open in Australia on April 4th 2013. It was exciting being on the set of the original movie; I was hugged by Jodie Foster and kissed by a sea lion. Pretty cool!

Our two books, "Nim's Island" and "Nim at Sea" will be coming out this year in one volume, "The Nim Stories". More excitement!

☆ The Little Firefly Pop-Up Gallery was open until 5 pm December 24th 2012 ☆

My pop-up gallery, The Little Firefly,was at Frendz Community Gallery, 20 Moore Ave West Lindfield NSW 2070 from Nov 30th to Dec 24th 2012. Frendz Community Gallery has now closed its doors and the space will be rented by another local business. It will be interesting to explore alternatives for myself and other artists in the new year...

☼ For the second time, a book I've illustrated is being made into a movie!
I was an extra in “Nim’s Island” with Jodie Foster, based on the book by Wendy Orr, and now “Nim’s Island II”, based on “Nim at Sea” which I also illustrated, is currently in production. Exciting!
